Franklin County Commissioners have officially designated May 17-23, 2026, as Emergency Medical Services Week, a period dedicated to acknowledging the indispensable contributions of the county’s emergency medical personnel. This annual observance encourages all residents to reflect on and appreciate the continuous efforts of the EMS network, which operates around the clock to ensure the safety and well-being of the community.
The comprehensive EMS system encompasses a wide array of individuals, including first responders, emergency medical technicians, paramedics, 911 telecommunicators, firefighters, police officers, educators, administrators, pre-hospital nurses, emergency nurses, emergency physicians, and members of the public who have received specialized training. These professionals, whether paid or volunteer, dedicate thousands of hours to rigorous training and ongoing education to hone their life-saving skills. They play a crucial role in providing essential out-of-hospital medical care, extending their services to include preventative medicine and crucial follow-up care.
