General Motors, LLC is initiating two separate safety recalls affecting a significant number of Chevrolet Malibu and Chevrolet Corvette vehicles. The recalls address distinct issues: a potentially malfunctioning rearview camera system in certain Malibu models and a noncompliance issue with the rear turn signal lamps in various Corvette models. Owners of the affected vehicles are advised to take specific precautions until the necessary repairs are completed.

The first recall, impacting a substantial portion of 2023 through 2025 model year Chevrolet Malibu vehicles, concerns the rearview camera display. According to General Motors, the rearview camera screen may present a distorted or blank image. This defect arises from an issue with the bonding process used by GM’s supplier to assemble the camera housing. An investigation revealed that the mounting configuration of the camera on the Chevrolet Malibu can expose it to moisture, potentially compromising a weak adhesive bond within the housing. The safety risk associated with this defect is a reduction in rear visibility during backing maneuvers, which increases the likelihood of a crash. Over 270,000 Chevrolet Malibu vehicles are potentially involved in this recall. Owners are advised not to drive their vehicles and to park them outside until the repair is performed. Dealers will replace the rearview camera as a remedy for this issue. Replacement parts are sourced from outside the suspect manufacturing period. Owners can expect to be notified of the available remedy beginning May 18, 2026. Vehicle Identification Numbers (VINs) will be searchable for recall status starting April 2, 2026.
The second recall addresses a compliance issue with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) No. 108, concerning lamps, reflective devices, and associated equipment. This recall affects several 2025 and 2026 model year Chevrolet Corvette variants, including the ZR1X Coupe and Convertible, and the E-Ray Coupe and Convertible, as well as standard Corvette Coupe and Convertible models. The defect involves the rear turn-signal lamps, where drivers may not be adequately notified of a failure. The cause of this issue stems from a software change made by the rear lamp assembly supplier in October 2024. This change, intended to assist technicians with a tire pressure monitor system (TPMS) learn process, inadvertently prevented the exterior lighting control module from detecting a failed rear turn signal under certain circumstances. The safety risk is an increased possibility of a crash due to a lack of driver awareness of a malfunctioning turn signal. General Motors is not aware of any crashes or injuries related to this specific condition in the Chevrolet Malibu recall, nor are they aware of any field complaints or incidents associated with the Corvette recall. The remedy for this recall involves updating the software calibration in the vehicle’s exterior lighting control module. For vehicles equipped to receive over-the-air (OTA) software updates, owners may opt to accept these changes remotely. Alternatively, all owners can have the update performed at a GM dealership. Revisions to the lighting control module software were implemented in GM’s assembly plants on February 2, 2026. Similar to the Malibu recall, owners can expect notification of the available remedy to begin mailing around May 18, 2026, with VINs searchable for recall status on April 2, 2026. For both recalls, dealers were scheduled to be notified on April 2, 2026.
