A fire that occurred early on April 10, 2026, in a three-story apartment building at 1740 Edgewood Hill Circle in Hagerstown, Washington County, is being investigated by the Office of the State Fire Marshal as incendiary in origin. The blaze was discovered by an occupant at approximately 2:17 AM in the basement storage area. The Hagerstown Fire Department responded to the one-alarm incident, which involved 27 firefighters and was brought under control in 15 minutes.

Fortunately, there were no reported injuries or deaths as a result of the fire, and no residents were displaced from the building. The estimated monetary loss from the incident is $1,500 for the structure and $500 for the contents. Information regarding smoke alarms or fire alarm systems within the building was not available. There have been no arrests made in connection with the incident at this time. The Office of the State Fire Marshal, an agency within the Department of State Police, is dedicated to safeguarding citizens from fire and explosion through various programs, including education, inspection, investigation, and fire protection engineering.
