Los Angeles, CA — In a stunning display of civic passion, thousands of Angelenos took to the streets this weekend waving signs and chanting slogans some residents believed were directed at their beloved Los Angeles Kings hockey team.

One local resident, clutching a handmade poster reading “ Protect Our Goaltenders!” while marching near the Crypto dot com Arena, declared, “I’ve had enough. These protesters keep yelling ‘No ICE’ like it’s some kind of personal attack on our goalies. We already lost enough games this season without them trying to melt the rink!”
She wasn’t alone. Across the city, confusion reigned as demonstrators chanted “No Kings! No Kings!” outside city hall. Many interpreted the phrase as a direct assault on the NHL franchise rather than a political statement about monarchy or immigration enforcement.
“I thought this was finally the fanbase standing up against the front office,” said a lifelong Kings supporter sporting a faded Gretzky jersey. “We’ve suffered through decades of mediocrity. ‘No Kings’ makes total sense — tear it all down and rebuild! But then I saw people mixing it with ‘No ICE’ and got worried they were coming for the Zamboni too.”
Eyewitnesses reported several tense moments when protesters attempted to explain the actual meaning of the slogans.
One activist with a megaphone tried to clarify: “We’re saying ‘No ICE’ as in Immigration and Customs Enforcement, not the frozen water you skate on!”
A nearby fan in a purple-and-gold jersey shot back, “Yeah, well your signs say ‘No Kings,’ and we’re the Kings! You’re literally protesting our team in front of our arena. At least be honest about it.”
Social media exploded with the mix-up. A viral TikTok showed a group of hockey moms holding signs that read “Defund the Penalty Box” and “Kings Fans Lives Matter,” quickly amassing over 2 million views. One popular comment read: “Finally, someone’s addressing the real crisis in LA — these anti-hockey radicals trying to ban body checks and power plays.”
The mayor attempted to address the growing confusion during a press conference but only added fuel to the fire.
“Look, these protests have nothing to do with hockey,” the mayor said. “We support our Kings, we support our fans, and we support—”
She was immediately interrupted by a chorus of boos from a small but vocal group of season ticket holders in the back who yelled, “Then why are you letting them chant ‘No Kings’ right outside the arena?!”
Meanwhile, actual Kings players seemed bewildered by the sudden surge in apparent fan activism. The team captain reportedly asked staff, “Are we getting cancelled? Did I miss something during the last road trip?”
The Los Angeles Police Department confirmed they were monitoring the situation closely, primarily to prevent rival hockey fans from other cities from infiltrating the protests and turning “No Kings” into a self-fulfilling prophecy.
At press time, one particularly dedicated group of protesters had reportedly changed their chant to “No ICE, No Problem — Just Use Rollerblades!” in an attempt to bridge the divide with confused hockey supporters.
Many LA residents remain unconvinced.
“Look,” said one fan, “if they really cared about Los Angeles, they’d be protesting the traffic on the 405, not our hockey team. Leave the Kings alone. We’ve got enough problems without losing our power play percentage too.”
In related news, local sports radio stations are now fielding record call volumes from fans demanding the team rebrand as the “Los Angeles Something Else” to avoid future slogan-related controversies.
