April brings a series of engaging activities. The “Taste of Downtown” event is set for Saturday, April 11, 2026, from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., where attendees can sample offerings from various downtown restaurants for $10, covering tastings at six establishments. The Barbara Ingram School for the Arts (BISFA) will present its 15th all-school musical, “HADESTOWN: Teen Edition,” on Saturday, April 18, at 7:30 p.m., and Sunday, April 19, at 2:30 p.m., at The Maryland Theatre. Later in the month, Good News Hagerstown and the Downtown team are organizing an Earth Day Spring Planting event on Wednesday, April 22, from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Franklin Street, inviting volunteers to help revitalize planters. The Hagerstown Flying Boxcars will celebrate their opening day for the 2026 season at Meritus Park on Friday, April 24, at 6:30 p.m. Two spring planting events are scheduled for Saturday, April 25: one at Market Walk from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., hosted by Good News Hagerstown, Hagerstown Youth Council, and Downtown Hagerstown Main Street, and another that day at University Plaza from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., featuring a cultural immersive music experience presented by Afro Soca Love, including genres like Soca, Afrobeat, Reggae, and more. BISFA will have additional performances of “HADESTOWN: Teen Edition” on Saturday, April 25, at 7:30 p.m., and Sunday, April 26, at 2:30 p.m., at The Maryland Theatre.
May is packed with diverse attractions. Kicking off the month is “Music in the Plaza & Thunder in the Square” on Friday, May 1, 2026, at University Plaza from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. This event will feature live music from The Cruisers and a classic car show hosted by the Alsatia Club. The Hagerfest Music & Art Festival is scheduled for Saturday, May 2, in downtown Hagerstown from 11:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m., offering free performances and activities, including the National Mural Awards, live music by the Mack Berry Band and The Reagan Years, live painting, a graffiti art battle, spoken word performances, and dance classes. The following Saturday, May 9, features two events: the “2nd Saturday: Art Walk” in downtown Hagerstown from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., with walking tours of the Cultural Trail and an artisan marketplace, and “Touch a Truck & Train” at the City Park Train Hub from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., offering free family-friendly activities. Later that day, May 16, South Prospect Street will host “Porchfest,” a free live music event on front porches from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Also on May 16, the inaugural “Battle of the Cheesesteaks” will take place in the Elizabeth Hager Parking Lot from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., hosted by One Room Media, where attendees can sample offerings from 10 vendors and vote for a People’s Choice winner. The 2026 Farmers Market season will commence with its grand opening on Sunday, May 31, at Hub City Brewery from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., providing opportunities to purchase fresh food from local vendors.
The events continue into June with the return of the Western Maryland Blues Fest on Saturday, June 6, and Sunday, June 7, at Hub City Brewery. This reimagined festival promises to feature prominent blues artists.
