A Lebanon, Pennsylvania man has been sentenced to 138 months, or more than 11 years, in federal prison for his involvement in drug trafficking and possessing a firearm. According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Pennsylvania, Angel Lopez-Guzman, 38, was found guilty of possession with intent to distribute cocaine and possessing a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime.
The investigation revealed that Lopez-Guzman traveled from his home in Lebanon to Scranton to acquire a kilogram of cocaine. He intended to distribute this significant quantity of drugs within the Lebanon community. However, law enforcement intercepted him as he was returning to Lebanon. During a traffic stop, authorities discovered the kilogram of cocaine and a handgun concealed in the trunk of Lopez-Guzman’s vehicle. The seizure of these illicit items was a result of efforts by the Drug Enforcement Administration and the Lebanon County Drug Task Force. The prosecution of this case was handled by Assistant United States Attorney Michael Scalera.
This sentencing underscores the federal government’s commitment to combating drug trafficking and illegal firearm possession. Individuals involved in the distribution of controlled substances, especially when coupled with the presence of weapons, face severe penalties under federal law. The lengthy prison sentence imposed on Lopez-Guzman serves as a deterrent to others who might consider engaging in similar criminal activities. The community in Lebanon, where Lopez-Guzman intended to distribute the cocaine, will benefit from the removal of this drug supply and the individual responsible for it. Residents are reminded that federal law enforcement agencies, in conjunction with local task forces, are actively working to disrupt drug networks and seize illegal firearms to enhance public safety.
