The primary objective of this meeting is to provide comprehensive guidance on fire code requirements, detailed inspection procedures, and the critical aspects of life safety system compliance. Additionally, the event will highlight strategies for interagency coordination, underscoring Washington County’s dedication to bolstering public safety, ensuring regulatory uniformity, and fostering open communication with the local business and contractor community.
A broad spectrum of professionals and entities are encouraged to participate. This includes general construction and trade contractors, as well as specialized contractors dealing with sprinkler systems, fire alarms, life safety measures, and exhaust hood suppression systems. Permit consultants and those coordinating special events, such as circuses, haunted attractions, festivals, and food truck gatherings, will also find the information highly relevant. Representatives from the Agricultural Center, Health Department, and Liquor License Board are also invited to attend, emphasizing a collaborative approach to safety.
Furthermore, the meeting is specifically designed to benefit owners, operators, and managers of assembly occupancies. This encompasses a wide range of establishments including places of worship, entertainment and amusement venues, restaurants, food trucks, bars, nightclubs, organizational centers, and wedding venues. The informational session also extends its relevance to those responsible for mercantile, business, industrial, warehouse, storage, and multi-family residential occupancies. Any non-residential structure that is equipped with fire sprinkler systems, fire alarm systems, exhaust hood systems, fire extinguishers, emergency lighting, or exit signage is strongly advised to have appropriate representation present.
Key discussion points during the meeting will include detailed explanations of fire inspection expectations, common issues encountered during compliance checks, and the defined responsibilities of both contractors and property owners. The session will also cover specific requirements for temporary events and assemblies, alongside best practices for the proper maintenance and testing of vital life safety systems. Attendees will be afforded a valuable opportunity to directly engage with county staff, pose questions, and seek clarification on existing requirements, thereby promoting a consistent and effective application of fire safety standards across the entire community. Those interested in attending are encouraged to RSVP, and further information can be obtained by contacting the Division of Permits & Inspections at 240-313-2460 or by visiting the official Washington County website at http://www.washco-md.net.
