The Maryland Transportation Authority (MDTA) is inviting the public to an informational open house regarding a significant rehabilitation and resiliency project for the Curtis Creek Drawbridge. This project, slated to begin construction in the spring of 2026, aims to bolster safety and reliability along the I-695 corridor, specifically impacting Baltimore City, Baltimore County, and Anne Arundel County. The initiative is a crucial part of the MDTA’s ongoing preservation efforts for the two bridges that accommodate the Inner and Outer Loops of I-695 over Curtis Creek.

Drivers should anticipate notable traffic impacts during the construction period, which is projected to conclude in the summer of 2027. The project is planned in two primary construction phases. During Phase 1, the Inner Loop of I-695 will be closed between Quarantine Road (Exit 1) and MD 10 (Exit 2). All traffic will be redirected to the Outer Loop of I-695, with one lane available in each direction. Subsequently, Phase 2 will see the closure of the Outer Loop I-695 between MD 10 (Exit 2) and Quarantine Road (Exit 1). Traffic will then be routed to the Inner Loop of I-695, also operating with a single lane in each direction. Additionally, the ramp connecting northbound MD 10 to the I-695 Outer Loop will be detoured for the entire duration of Phase 2. These construction efforts will involve the replacement of sections of the concrete decks and parapets, as well as repairs to the steel girders located adjacent to the main bridge spans. The project also includes cleaning and painting the steel superstructure in the repaired zones, upgrading lighting and traffic signals on the bridge, and implementing new pavement markings and signage.

The MDTA is hosting an informational open house where community members can gain a comprehensive understanding of the project’s scope and provide valuable feedback. The event will not feature a formal presentation; instead, MDTA staff will be present to answer questions and share detailed project displays. The open house is scheduled for Tuesday, March 3, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Solley Elementary School, located at 7608 Solley Road in Glen Burnie, MD 21060. Further information and project materials are also accessible online through the MDTA website. Those requiring special accommodations in accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act, or needing translation services at no cost, are encouraged to contact the MDTA at 410-537-1000 (or 711 for MD Relay) at least five business days prior to the open house to make necessary arrangements.

It is important to note that the MDTA operates and maintains eight toll facilities across the state. These operations are funded entirely by toll revenue, and not by state tax dollars. For real-time updates on significant traffic incidents, individuals can follow the MDTA on X.com/TheMDTA or find them on Facebook at facebook.com/TheMDTA.
