A Maryland State Trooper’s swift and decisive response during a routine traffic stop in Elkton resulted in the saving of an infant’s life, according to an announcement from the Maryland State Police. The incident occurred on Saturday, February 14th, when Trooper First Class Nicholas Warren was conducting a traffic stop.
While Trooper First Class Warren, a seven-year veteran of the force assigned to the North East Barrack, was concluding the initial traffic stop, another vehicle pulled up alongside his patrol car. The driver of this second vehicle urgently alerted the trooper that their baby was choking. Without delay, Trooper First Class Warren initiated a call for emergency medical services. He then approached the distressed vehicle, removed the infant, and immediately began administering first aid. Following his training, the trooper delivered back blows to the infant, successfully dislodging the obstruction. The infant then began to breathe again.
Emergency medical personnel arrived on the scene shortly thereafter to further assess the infant. The Maryland State Police credited Trooper First Class Warren’s prompt actions, proper training, and calm demeanor for averting a potentially tragic situation.
