According to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), Zan International Trading is recalling approximately 470 bottles of Lotus Joy Organic Sweet Birch Essential Oil. The recalled product poses a significant risk of serious injury or death to children due to the potential for poisoning. The essential oil contains methyl salicylate, a substance that, by law under the Poison Prevention Packaging Act (PPPA), requires child-resistant packaging. These bottles do not meet this mandatory safety standard, meaning they are not adequately protected against accidental ingestion by young children.

The recalled Lotus Joy Organic Sweet Birch Essential Oil is sold in 0.34 fluid ounce amber glass bottles. The bottles feature a black cap and come with a separate glass dropper that also has a black cap. The product’s white label displays orange and black text, prominently featuring “LotusJoy,” “organic,” “sweet birch,” and “essential oil,” along with the botanical name “betula lenta.” The accompanying packaging is a blue box with similar orange and black lettering on the front, and it contains ingredients and directions on the back.
Consumers who purchased these essential oil bottles are urged to immediately secure them out of the sight and reach of children. To receive a full refund, customers must contact Zan International Trading directly. As part of the refund process, consumers will be instructed to dispose of the contents of the bottle by pouring it into the trash. They will then need to document this disposal by taking a photograph of the bottle in the trash and submitting it via email to zantradellc@hotmail.com. The product was available for purchase on Amazon.com between August 2025 and November 2025, with a retail price of approximately $13. No incidents or injuries have been reported in connection with this recall.
The distributor of the recalled product is Zan International Trading & Services LLC, based in Rockville, Maryland. The essential oil itself was manufactured in China by Guangzhou Tenghui Fragrance & Flavor Co., Ltd. This recall highlights a broader concern within the consumer product market, as the CPSC frequently addresses products that violate mandatory safety regulations designed to protect children. In this instance, the violation pertains specifically to the critical safety requirement for child-resistant packaging for products containing methyl salicylate, a chemical that can be highly toxic if ingested.
