The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission has announced a recall affecting approximately 2,390 Sunneday and Blue Bay brand above-ground pools that are 48 inches or taller. This recall is being issued due to a significant drowning hazard posed by a compression strap designed to reinforce the pool legs. According to the commission, this strap can inadvertently create a foothold, providing children with access to the pool even if a ladder has been removed. The hazard means that young children could potentially climb into the pools unsupervised, leading to a risk of drowning.

The affected models include all Sunneday and Blue Bay above-ground pools with a height of 48 inches or more. Specific model numbers subject to this recall are: Sunneday Oasis Cottage models 70018 and 70024, and Blue Bay Softsided Pool models 358015W, 359015G, 360018W, 361018G, and 380018T. The brand logo and model information are printed on the pool liner, visible on the exterior. These pools were sold online through Amazon.com and the website http://www.sunneday.com between January 2024 and October 2025, with prices ranging from $500 to $1,210 depending on the size and included accessories.
Consumers who own these recalled pools are advised to contact Starmatrix Group, the manufacturer, to obtain a free repair kit. In the interim period before the repair kit can be installed, it is strongly recommended that consumers take immediate steps to prevent children from accessing the pools unattended. Alternatively, draining the pool until the repair is completed is also a suggested safety measure. No incidents or injuries have been reported in connection with this recall, but the potential for serious harm necessitates immediate action from consumers.
The CPSC emphasizes the importance of pool safety and provides resources for consumers. Their website, http://www.PoolSafely.gov, offers free downloadable educational materials covering various aspects of pool safety, including information on barriers, covers, and alarms. These resources are intended to help prevent pool-related incidents and promote safer practices for families with pools.
