The meeting agenda also includes several important updates for stakeholders within Maryland’s education system. The board will receive information regarding the ongoing 2026 Legislative Session and an overview of Governor Wes Moore’s proposed budget for Fiscal Year 2027. Additionally, there will be presentations on the Academic Excellence Program’s coaching model and the Kindergarten Readiness Assessment (KRA). These discussions are expected to provide insights into the state’s educational priorities and resource allocation for the upcoming fiscal year.
The State Board has opened a period for public comment, allowing individuals to share their perspectives both in person and virtually. However, participation in public comment is limited. A total of 15 individuals will be accommodated, with up to 10 slots available in the morning session and five in the afternoon. Registration for public comment closed on Friday, January 23, at 11:59 p.m. Those who successfully registered and were confirmed will be notified. Each speaker will be allocated a maximum of three minutes to present their comments, with staff overseeing the proceedings. The complete meeting agenda and a livestream link are accessible on the Maryland State Department of Education’s website, providing a pathway for the public to follow the proceedings and engage with the board’s discussions.
