Washington County, MD residents who paid their property taxes by the early payment deadline of July 31, 2025, may have received incorrect reminder notices for January 2026. According to information released by the Washington County Treasurer’s Office, a software issue within the county’s tax processing system, known as MUNIS, resulted in the 0.5% early payment discount not being accurately applied to a portion of eligible taxpayers’ accounts. This error led to some accounts showing a small outstanding balance, equivalent to the discount amount that was not credited.
The Treasurer’s Office is currently working to rectify the affected accounts. Taxpayers who submitted their full property tax payment by the July 31, 2025 deadline are advised that no further action or payment is necessary at this time. Once the corrections are completed, these accounts will be updated to reflect the proper discount, resulting in a zero balance. The office has expressed its apologies for any confusion this situation may have caused and is requesting the patience of residents as they work to resolve the discrepancy. Taxpayers who have questions or believe their account was impacted by this software malfunction are encouraged to contact the Treasurer’s Office directly at 240-313-2110 or via email at Treasurer3@washco-md.net.
