The Homeowner Assistance Fund (HAF) WholeHome Critical Home Repairs grant program, managed by the DHCD’s Community Development Administration, offers grants of up to $10,000. These funds can be used for essential repairs such as fixing or replacing roofs, repairing non-operational heating or cooling systems, addressing electrical or plumbing problems, and remediating mold or mildew. These types of repairs are categorized as critical because they directly impact the health, safety, and habitability of a home, and their neglect can lead to severe consequences for residents.
To qualify for this program, applicants must be Maryland homeowners whose household income does not exceed 150% of the area median income for their county. Detailed information regarding eligibility requirements and the application process is accessible on the DHCD website. The application period began on January 22, 2026, and will continue until all allocated funds are distributed. Applications are being processed on a rolling basis, meaning those who apply earliest are more likely to receive funding.
The Division of Development Finance, also known as the Community Development Administration, within the DHCD is responsible for overseeing various homeowner assistance programs. These programs are designed to support the renovation of single-family homes, enhancing their livability, health, safety, and energy efficiency. This includes efforts to reduce lead paint hazards, provide weatherization assistance, and offer financing options for individuals with special needs.
The program can be accessed on the DHCD website.
