Spade’s tenure with Washington County Public Schools began with substitute teaching roles early in her career, followed by more than fifteen years as a full-time educator. She currently holds the position of Elementary Literacy Achievement Coordinator. Her prior experience also includes serving as an assistant principal, lead teacher, and classroom teacher across various schools in the county. This diverse background has provided her with a comprehensive understanding of instructional practices, leadership methodologies, and strategies proven to enhance student achievement.
A core belief guiding Spade’s approach to education is that every child deserves the chance to succeed. She emphasizes the critical importance of establishing strong foundations for students from the outset of their academic journeys. Viewing school leadership as a significant opportunity, she is committed to ensuring that all students feel recognized and supported through robust systems and engaging, meaningful instruction.
Spade’s professional philosophy centers on the principle that students should always be the primary focus. She acknowledges the profound impact that teachers and school staff have on student success. As a proponent of lifelong learning, Spade values collaborative approaches, actively seeking opportunities to learn from others and foster strong partnerships with families and the broader community.
Her academic qualifications include a Bachelor of Arts degree in Early Childhood and Elementary Education from Frostburg State University. She furthered her education at Frostburg State University, earning a Master of Arts degree in Administration and Supervision. Spade is currently pursuing a Doctorate in Reading and Literacy from Capella University. In her personal life, she is a parent to two children with distinct interests and a step-parent to another.
