The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has issued a stern warning to consumers, urging them to immediately cease using Liberty Trike 16-inch and 20-inch electric tricycles. This advisory stems from a significant risk of tip-overs during turns, which can lead to severe injuries from falls. The hazard is exacerbated when the tricycles are operated on slopes or uneven terrain. The commission has documented six instances of falls, resulting in injuries such as concussions, fractures, and contusions.

The tricycles in question were imported and sold by Electric Bike Technologies, Inc., based in Croydon, Pennsylvania. Despite the CPSC’s concerns, the company has not agreed to a recall of the product. Electric Bike Technologies has reportedly stated that it is unable to provide a remedy to consumers due to financial limitations. This warning encompasses all 16-inch and 20-inch models of the Liberty Trike electric tricycles. The tricycles are identifiable by the “Liberty Trike” labeling on the chain guard and “Electric Bike Technologies” on the stem tube. The wheel size designation refers to the diameter of the wheels. Approximately 7,490 units were sold through Electric Bike Technologies’ website, libertytrike.com, between October 2015 and November 2025. The sale price ranged from $1,500 to $1,800. These tricycles were manufactured in both the United States and Taiwan.
The CPSC is advising consumers to immediately stop using these electric tricycles and to dispose of them properly. The agency explicitly warns against selling or giving away these hazardous products. Consumers who have experienced an injury or a product defect related to these tricycles are encouraged to report it to the CPSC through the SaferProducts.gov website.
Electric Bike Technologies, Inc., has provided a statement regarding the product’s turning dynamics. The company notes that electric tricycles inherently possess different turning characteristics compared to traditional two-wheeled bicycles. During turns, weight distribution shifts towards the outer wheel, which can increase the likelihood of a tip-over if the turn is executed too sharply or at excessive speeds, particularly on inclines or uneven surfaces. Liberty Trike emphasizes the importance of rider education and encourages users to operate their tricycles with caution, especially when navigating turns.
Consumers who purchased these tricycles may be impacted by this safety warning, as there is currently no remedy offered by the manufacturer. The CPSC strongly advises against any further use of the product to prevent potential injuries. Individuals are encouraged to utilize the SaferProducts.gov portal to report any incidents, which helps the CPSC in its ongoing efforts to identify and address product safety concerns.
