The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has issued a critical safety warning, urging consumers to immediately discontinue use of certain hair dryers purchased online from DHGate.com. These products pose a significant threat of electrocution and electric shock, potentially leading to death or severe injury. The hair dryers have been found to be non-compliant with federal safety regulations for such appliances and are considered a substantial hazard to consumers.

The primary concern identified by the CPSC is the absence of an integrated immersion protection device in these hair dryers. This critical safety feature is designed to prevent electrical hazards if the appliance comes into contact with water while plugged in. The lack of this protection means that if a hair dryer were to fall into water, users could face a risk of electrocution. These violative products were available for purchase on DHGate.com, with prices ranging from $10 to $100.
The warning encompasses seven specific models of hair dryers. These include the Designer Dryers Hair Anion Salon MuteHairdryer, which comes in gunmetal with various accent colors and multiple attachments; the HD17 Salon Hair Care Hairdryer, available in blue, teal, or pink with a distinct angled handle; and the Hair Salon Anion MuteHairdryer Hair Care Electric Hair Dryer, which is offered in assorted colors and includes five attachments. Also included are the Electric Hair Dryers Anion MuteHairdryer Care Electric Hair Drier Quick-dry Safety Egative Lonic Fashion Professional Travel Salon Blow Dryer, the Negative Ionic Professional Salon Blow Powerful Travel Hair Dryer, the Anion Mute Designer dryer HD08 Safety Powerful Electric Egative Ionic Hair Dryer (with four attachments), and the Fashion Dryers Hair Salon Anion MuteHairdryer Designer Hair Care Electric Hair Dryer (with five attachments).
Despite being notified by the CPSC about these safety violations and the non-compliance with U.S. safety standards, the online retailer DHGate, which is based in China, has not yet responded to requests for a product recall. Given the immediate danger, consumers are strongly advised to take action to ensure their safety.
Consumers who own any of the affected DHGate hair dryers are instructed to cease using them immediately. The CPSC recommends destroying the product by unplugging it, cutting the power cord, and then disposing of it in the regular garbage. It is crucial that these hazardous hair dryers are not sold or given to anyone else, as this would continue to put others at risk.
Individuals who have experienced any incidents involving injury or a defect with these or any other products are encouraged to report them to the CPSC through their online portal at http://www.SaferProducts.gov. This reporting system helps the CPSC track product safety issues and take necessary actions to protect the public. The products in question were manufactured in China.
