The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has issued an urgent warning to consumers, urging them to immediately cease using certain hair dryers purchased from Wish.com due to significant safety concerns. These products reportedly lack essential safety features, specifically an integrated immersion protection device, which can lead to severe electric shock and electrocution, posing a risk of death or serious injury. The hair dryers are deemed to be in violation of federal safety regulations for such appliances and represent a substantial hazard to the public.

The affected hair dryers were available for purchase online through Wish.com, with prices ranging from $20 to $50. The CPSC identified three specific models that are subject to this warning. One is described as the “Blue Light Anion Electric” hair dryer, which comes in black or purple and bears the label “FOCUSUN F7 2300W 220-240V 50HZ.” Another model is the “High-power Household Mini Folding hair dryer,” characterized by a blue and white color scheme and a red switch. The third identified hair dryer is the “Hands-free Hair Dryer with Tripod Stand,” which is white and features an orange, transparent nozzle. Notably, the mini folding and the hands-free tripod models do not have any identifying markings or labels.
The CPSC has communicated with Wish.com, based in California, regarding these non-compliant hair dryers. However, as of the warning’s issuance, the company had not yet responded to requests for a product recall. Consumers are strongly advised to take immediate action to ensure their safety. This includes stopping the use of these hair dryers, unplugging them, cutting the power cord, and disposing of them safely in the garbage. The CPSC explicitly prohibits the sale or donation of these hazardous items to prevent further risk to others.
For individuals who may have experienced an incident involving injury or a product defect related to these hair dryers, the CPSC encourages reporting through its website, SaferProducts.gov. This information is crucial for ongoing product safety monitoring and enforcement. The hair dryers in question were manufactured in China.
