A voluntary recall has been issued for approximately 1,200 PNW Components Loam Pedal Gen 2 aluminum alloy bicycle pedals due to a significant safety concern, according to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. The pedals, sold as aftermarket components for mountain bikes, pose a crash hazard because the pedal axle can fracture. This potential failure can lead to the pedal detaching from the bicycle’s crank during use, increasing the risk of a rider falling.

The recalled Loam Pedal Gen 2 features a platform-style design and is identifiable by a “Tectonic” logo laser-etched on the pedal body near the threaded axle. These pedals were available for purchase in black, silver, green, orange, and purple. The issue has been linked to four reported instances where the pedal axle cracked and detached from the crank. While no injuries have been reported to date, the potential for serious harm necessitates this recall.

Consumers who have purchased these pedals are advised to immediately cease using them. PNW Components is offering a solution to address the defect. While a permanent fix is being prepared, the company is providing consumers with a free replacement Range Pedal for immediate use. PNW Components plans to begin shipping replacement axle systems to customers on January 5, 2026. To initiate the recall process and receive the replacement parts or interim pedals, customers are instructed to contact PNW Components directly. They can be reached by phone at 833-902-3381 between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. Pacific Time, Monday through Friday, or via email at info@pnwcomponents.com. Further information and instructions can also be found on the company’s website at http://www.pnwcomponents.com by navigating to the recall link in the footer.

The affected pedals were sold between June 2025 and November 2025 through independent bicycle dealers and online retailers including PNWComponents.com, REI.com, Backcountry.com, and JensonUSA.com. The retail price for these pedals was approximately $160 per pair. The importer of record for these pedals is PNW Components, Inc., based in Seattle, Washington, and they were manufactured in Taiwan.
