The first fire was reported on Sunday, December 28, 2025, at approximately 10:06 PM at a residence located at 6319 Jones Village Road. Responding to a neighbor’s call, firefighters from the Hurlock Volunteer Fire Department quickly extinguished a small blaze within the unoccupied, two-story wooden structure. The initial fire resulted in an estimated 200 in damages to the home’s contents and 2,500 to the structure itself. Although a smoke alarm was present, it failed to activate. Investigators subsequently identified multiple points of origin and, with the assistance of an accelerant detection canine, determined the cause of this fire to be incendiary, commonly known as arson.
Tragically, the same address became the scene of a second, much larger fire just over two hours later. On December 29, 2025, at 4:20 AM, a neighbor again alerted the Hurlock Volunteer Fire Department to a fire at the property. Upon arrival, firefighters encountered the home fully engulfed in flames. This second blaze required 25 firefighters and 15 minutes to bring under control. A subsequent investigation by Deputy State Fire Marshals revealed that this fire had originated in the kitchen. The impact of this second incident was devastating, causing an estimated 1,000 in damages to contents and an additional 80,000 to the structure, which was rendered a total loss. The cause of this second fire was also determined to be incendiary.
The Office of the State Fire Marshal is actively seeking information from the community that could aid in the arrest of the individuals responsible for these deliberate acts of destruction. Anyone with knowledge pertaining to these fires is urged to contact the office at 410-713-3780. Callers have the option to remain anonymous.
