The investigation was initiated on the morning of December 21, when the Maryland State Police Homicide Unit received notification from the Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services Internal Investigative Unit regarding the inmate’s death. Initial findings from the preliminary investigation suggest that Polston was discovered unresponsive within his cell. In response, Maryland State Police homicide investigators were dispatched to the scene. Additionally, crime scene technicians from the Maryland State Police Forensic Sciences Division were present to process the area for any relevant evidence. Authorities have identified another inmate as a suspect in connection with Polston’s death. However, this individual’s identity will not be publicly disclosed until formal charges have been filed. Upon the conclusion of the investigation, all findings will be submitted to the Office of the State’s Attorney in Allegany County for their review. The case remains active and is currently ongoing.
