The organizations selected to receive funding in West Virginia and Maryland are Ronald McDonald House Morgantown and Big Brothers Big Sisters of Washington County, Maryland. The grant for Ronald McDonald House Morgantown will directly assist approximately 42 families by providing comfortable lodging through the Jacob Johnson Family Lodging Fund. Since its establishment in 1990, the Morgantown facility has been a vital resource for out-of-town families with children undergoing medical treatment, serving over 200 families annually and offering additional support through day guest services.

In Maryland, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Washington County will utilize its $20,000 grant to fund enhanced learning opportunities for around 150 children. This organization has a long-standing history, dating back to 1956, of connecting young people with adult mentors to foster positive relationships and guide their development. The FirstEnergy Foundation’s focus on these grants aligns with its commitment to addressing housing insecurity and promoting youth development.

This year marks the 10th anniversary of the FirstEnergy Foundation’s “Gifts of the Season” program, which has a history of supporting local nonprofits and community initiatives. FirstEnergy Corp., an investor-owned electric system, serves more than 6 million customers across Ohio, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, West Virginia, Maryland, and New York.
