According to a recent announcement from the City of Hagerstown and its community partners, residents are invited to participate in the annual Merry & Bright Holiday Lights Tour. While tickets for the double-decker bus tours have sold out, the public is still encouraged to experience the festive displays by driving their own vehicles along a designated route. This self-guided event is scheduled for Friday, December 12th, from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM.

The Merry & Bright Holiday Lights Tour offers a free opportunity for families and individuals to enjoy the holiday spirit by exploring decorated neighborhoods throughout Hagerstown. Participants can download a map of the route and featured stops in advance, allowing them to begin their journey at any point along the loop and proceed at their own pace. The recommended viewing time between 6:00 PM and 9:00 PM is ideal for a “cozy holiday cruise,” according to the event organizers.
In addition to the lights tour, the City of Hagerstown is offering free weekend parking in city decks from Friday evenings after 5:00 PM through Sundays during the holiday season. This initiative aims to provide convenient parking for those wishing to stop for dinner or a warm beverage before or after their drive through the illuminated neighborhoods. Event organizers are also reminding participants to be considerate of the community by driving slowly, avoiding blocking streets or driveways, and maintaining respectful music levels in residential areas. Attendees are encouraged to share their experiences and photos on social media using the hashtags #MerryAndBrightHagerstown and #downtownhagerstown.
The Merry & Bright Holiday Lights Tour is presented by Downtown Hagerstown Main Street, Hagerstown Parks & Recreation, and Maryland Double Deckers, with sponsorship from Antietam Broadband. Those interested in volunteering with Downtown Hagerstown or seeking more information about this and other events can reach out via email to events@hagerstownmd.org.
Furthermore, residents of Washington County are invited to participate in the Washington County Christmas Lights Contest. Those wishing to have their homes considered for this decorating contest must sign up by December 7th. Details on how to register for the contest are available through the county website.
