The Frederick Police Department has upgraded charges to murder in connection with a shooting that occurred on October 5, 2024, at the intersection of North Market Street and East Church Street. One of the individuals injured in the incident, Xavier Jace Smith, died from his injuries on October 12, 2024. As a result, Darryll Lee Cooke Jr., a 29-year-old resident of Frederick, Maryland, now faces murder charges. The investigation is ongoing, with detectives collaborating with the Frederick County State’s Attorney’s Office. The police department is urging anyone with further information to come forward.
