Upon arrival, deputies learned that an altercation between two adults in a residence had escalated. A teenage family member reportedly intervened, and during the ensuing chaos, allegedly produced a handgun and fired a single shot into a stairwell. The teen then fled the home through a window and left in a vehicle with two other individuals. Evidence at the scene corroborated the report of a firearm discharge, and a handgun was later recovered from the suspect’s bedroom.
Law enforcement broadcast a description of the suspect vehicle to responding units. The vehicle was subsequently located on Viceroy Court in the Ballenger Creek area. Deputies initiated a traffic stop and took the suspect, identified as 18-year-old Markell Anthony Thompson of Frederick, into custody without incident. A search of the vehicle revealed a bag belonging to Thompson that contained both a loaded rifle and a loaded handgun. Authorities confirmed that the handgun had been stolen from San Bernardino County, California. Additionally, a spent .40 caliber casing was found in Thompson’s pants pocket. Thompson was transported to the Frederick County Adult Detention Center and faces charges including possession of a firearm by a prohibited person and possession of a stolen firearm. No injuries were reported as a result of this incident.
The Frederick County Sheriff’s Office is urging anyone with further information regarding this incident to contact Deputy Ritchey at 301-600-1046.
