The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission has announced a recall of approximately 840 Scepter B62 gas and oil combination fuel containers due to significant safety concerns. These containers, imported by Pro Recycle, are being recalled because they do not meet mandatory federal safety standards, presenting a serious risk of flash fire, burns, and child poisoning. Consumers are advised to immediately stop using these products and contact the importer for a full refund.

The recalled Scepter fuel containers are red with black caps and yellow spouts, featuring dual chambers for both gasoline (6-liter capacity) and oil (2.5-liter capacity). The containers are embossed with the “Scepter” brand name and “Essence Danger” on the side. The primary hazard identified is the absence of flame mitigation devices, a mandatory component under the Portable Fuel Container Safety Act. This omission significantly increases the risk of a flash fire. Furthermore, the product’s spout does not comply with the Children’s Gasoline Burn Prevention Act, which requires child-resistant closures for portable gasoline containers. This lack of child resistance poses a danger of burns and accidental poisoning to young children.
The recalled fuel containers were sold through Amazon from September 2024 through July 2025 for approximately $40. Consumers who purchased these containers are urged to place them in a secure location out of reach of children. To receive a full refund, consumers must contact Pro Recycle, located in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, by phone at 514-887-7309 between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. ET, Monday through Friday, or via email at prorecycle@hotmail.ca. While no incidents or injuries have been reported in relation to this specific recall, the potential for severe harm necessitates immediate action from consumers.
This recall highlights the importance of adhering to federal safety regulations designed to protect consumers, particularly children, from hazardous products. Consumers are encouraged to verify if their fuel containers are part of this recall and to follow the provided instructions for return and refund.
