Daimler Vans USA, LLC, is initiating a recall for certain 2025 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter 2500 vehicles due to a potential issue with the front short-range radar sensor. The defect, which affects 16 vehicles produced between June 10 and June 15, 2025, could lead to the deactivation of driver assistance functions and compromise autonomous braking capabilities, potentially increasing the risk of a crash. The issue stems from a deviation in the production process at a supplier for the radar sensor’s printed circuit board, which may not meet current specifications.

Investigations into the problem began in late May 2025 following a report of a front radar sensor malfunction at a production plant. A collaborative analysis with the supplier in June 2025 identified the production process deviation. Affected parts were located, and vehicles still accessible by Mercedes-Benz were reworked in July. Internal testing throughout August 2025 assessed the potential consequences of the defect on vehicles in operation, leading to the identification of the potentially impacted population in the field by September. On October 10, 2025, Mercedes-Benz AG determined that a safety risk could not be excluded, prompting the decision to conduct a recall. The manufacturer has confirmed no warranty claims, field reports, or other information, including injuries or fatalities, related to this defect in the United States.
The recall is expected to involve a remedy where authorized Mercedes-Benz dealers will replace the short-range sensor on affected vehicles. While the recall is voluntary, owners of potentially affected vehicles are advised not to drive them and to park them outside. Dealers will be notified of the campaign on October 24, 2025. Owners will be notified of the recall before December 12, 2025, with remedies to be implemented in phases, with VINs becoming searchable for recall status on October 24, 2025. The production procedure at the supplier has been corrected as of July 16, 2025, to prevent recurrence. Mercedes-Benz USA does not anticipate pre-notice reimbursement for owners, as affected vehicles are expected to be covered under new vehicle warranty.
