Daimler Vans USA has issued a recall for 689 units of its 2024 Mercedes-Benz eSprinter due to a defect in the rear axle drivetrain that could lead to propulsion loss. The recall, identified as NHTSA Recall No. 25V-090, was filed on February 14, 2025. According to Mercedes-Benz AG, the manufacturer, the defect was caused by a deviation in the production process at its supplier, ZF North America, Inc. This flaw could result in a loss of drive load transmission within the rear axle drivetrain, potentially leading to propulsion failure. Additionally, the parking lock may not function properly, though the electric parking brake remains operational. The company notes that drivers will not receive a warning before failure, but loud rattling noises may occur once the issue manifests.

To address the problem, affected eSprinter vans will have their rear axle electric drivetrain replaced by authorized Mercedes-Benz Sprinter dealers. Since all impacted vehicles remain under factory warranty, there will be no reimbursement costs for owners. Daimler Vans USA has confirmed that the defect has been corrected in production as of September 30, 2024, through modifications to the supplier’s manufacturing process.
Dealers are set to be notified about the recall on February 21, 2025, with owner notifications scheduled to be sent by April 11, 2025. Customers with concerns are encouraged to contact Daimler Vans USA for further details.
