The issue stems from a potential ingress of moisture into the gear shift module during the assembly process. Under certain conditions, this moisture could lead to the gear indicator’s light-emitting diode (LED) failing to illuminate. This non-illumination means the vehicle would not comply with federal regulations requiring the automatic transmission control position indicator to be illuminated, thereby increasing the risk of a crash. The recall specifically affects 126 units of the 2025 Land Rover Range Rover, 117 units of the 2025 Land Rover Range Rover Sport, 2 units of the 2025 Land Rover Discovery Sport, and 6 units of the 2026 Land Rover Range Rover Evoque. The affected Range Rover and Range Rover Sport vehicles were manufactured at the Solihull Vehicle Assembly Plant between August 19, 2025, and August 27, 2025. The 2025 Land Rover Discovery Sport and 2026 Land Rover Range Rover Evoque models were produced at the Halewood Vehicle Assembly Plant between August 25, 2025, and August 27, 2025. The component manufacturer for the affected gear shift modules is ALPS ELECTRIC (IRELAND) LTD.
Jaguar Land Rover became aware of the issue following reports from vehicle assembly plants regarding non-illumination of the automatic transmission control position indicator. A meeting held on October 2, 2025, with supplier input initiated a review of the problem. Further meetings on October 3, 2025, confirmed the affected vehicles, leading to the implementation of procedures to stop the sale of these vehicles. Instructions were issued to relevant markets and retailers to cease the sale of affected vehicles. Between October 3 and October 7, 2025, the full scope of the issue was determined, including the location of all affected vehicles. A Product Safety and Compliance Committee meeting on October 7, 2025, led to a decision to escalate the matter for senior review. On October 9, 2025, a determination was made that the vehicles failed to comply with global regulated requirements for the illumination of automatic transmission control position indicators, mandating a recall. Jaguar Land Rover has stated that it has not received any customer complaints, field reports, accidents, injuries, or fires in the U.S. related to this specific concern.
Owners of the affected vehicles are advised that the remedy will involve the replacement of the gear shift module. This repair will be performed at no cost to the owner. The recall schedule indicates that dealers will be notified on October 30, 2025, with owner notification letters to be distributed on or before December 12, 2025. While the full remedy remedy owner notification is phased, owners can typically expect to be informed about the repair process in the coming weeks and months. Until the vehicle is repaired, owners are advised not to drive the vehicle and to park it outside. Information regarding the VIN searchability for this recall will be made available at a later date.
