Maryland State Police are conducting an investigation into a two-vehicle collision that occurred yesterday afternoon in Queen Anne’s County, resulting in injuries to two individuals and significant traffic delays. The incident involved a motorcycle and an SUV, and prompted the closure of a major roadway for an extended period.

The crash occurred around 4:59 p.m. on U.S. Route 50, also known as Ocean Gateway, at the intersection with Arrington Road. According to preliminary findings from the Maryland State Police, a Lexus SUV was in the process of turning left from westbound Ocean Gateway onto Arrington Road. At that time, the SUV was struck by a Kawasaki motorcycle traveling eastbound on U.S. Route 50. The precise reasons for the collision are still under investigation.
As a result of the impact, the motorcycle operator, identified as 23-year-old Jesse Paul of Centreville, Maryland, sustained injuries requiring transport by Maryland State Police Aviation Command to the R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center. A passenger in the Lexus, Donald Gibson, 72, of Queenstown, Maryland, was taken by ambulance to the University of Maryland Shore Emergency Center at Queenstown for treatment of his injuries. The driver of the Lexus did not report any injuries.
The investigation necessitated the closure of Ocean Gateway for over an hour, impacting traffic flow in the area. Personnel from the Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration provided assistance at the scene. The Maryland State Police Crash Team is presently leading the ongoing inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the collision.
