Maryland offers two primary avenues for domestic violence survivors to maintain the confidentiality of their voter registration information. Survivors can apply directly to their local board of elections to have their address, phone number, and email address kept private within their voter registration profile. The application process involves completing a Confidentiality Request Form and selecting either the category “Persons Being Threatened” or “Nondisclosure of Personal Information for Personal Safety.” Both options require supporting documentation, the specifics of which are detailed on the form itself. Once completed and signed, along with the necessary supporting documents, the form should be submitted to the election office in the survivor’s county of residence.
Beyond the SBE’s specific voter registration protections, Maryland’s Secretary of State also administers the Address Confidentiality Program (ACP). This program is available to individuals who have experienced or are at risk of threatened, attempted, or actual domestic violence, sexual assault, stalking, harassment, or human trafficking. Participation in the ACP extends to protecting records held by the SBE, offering a broader layer of confidentiality.
For those looking to participate in the upcoming 2026 Gubernatorial Primary Election, the deadline to register to vote or update existing registration information is Tuesday, June 2, 2026. Mail-in registrations must be postmarked by this date. Eligible voters can utilize the SBE’s online registration system to register or verify their current registration status. For individuals already registered under confidentiality protections, it is recommended to contact the State or local board of elections directly to ensure all information is current. Those who prefer not to register online can download and print the voter registration form, available in both English and Spanish, and submit it in person at their local board of election office. Maryland also provides the option of same-day registration, allowing eligible voters to register and cast their ballot simultaneously during the early voting period or on Election Day.
