Customs and Border Protection (CBP), an agency within the Department of Homeland Security, reported substantial gains in confiscating dangerous drugs throughout August. The agency observed a significant rise in the seizure of various controlled substances, including fentanyl, cocaine, heroin, methamphetamine, and marijuana, when comparing August’s figures to those of the preceding month. Specifically, methamphetamine seizures saw a 37% increase, contributing to a total of over 55,000 pounds of drugs intercepted in August alone. This latest monthly total positions August as the third-highest month for drug seizures during the current administration.
Furthermore, the report highlighted a decrease in fentanyl trafficking along the southern border, with seizures down by 56% compared to the same period in 2024. This development is presented as evidence of efforts to disrupt the operations of drug cartels and prevent the flow of these substances into the United States.
