CBP officers at the Calexico West Port of Entry recently intercepted a significant drug smuggling attempt, discovering four types of narcotics hidden within a vehicle. The seizure took place on February 18 when a 20-year-old male driving a blue sedan attempted to enter the United States from Mexico. Officers referred the vehicle for further inspection after initial screening raised suspicions.

Using non-intrusive inspection technology, CBP officers detected anomalies in the vehicle’s floor. A K-9 team conducted a search, which led to the discovery of concealed narcotics. Further investigation revealed 36 packages containing a mix of illicit drugs. Testing confirmed that four packages contained fentanyl, three held cocaine, two contained heroin, and 27 were filled with methamphetamine, totaling 47 pounds of illegal substances.

Authorities arrested the suspect and transferred him to Homeland Security Investigations for further inquiry. CBP officers also seized the narcotics and the vehicle. Officials emphasized that smugglers continually develop new methods to evade detection, but CBP remains committed to identifying and disrupting drug trafficking operations. Port Director Roque Caza commended officers for their vigilance and efforts in preventing dangerous substances from reaching U.S. communities.
