In a recent press release, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) detailed an incident where over 200 individuals gathered outside the ICE Broadview Processing Center in Illinois, blocking access to a gate and attempting to trespass on federal property. According to DHS, these individuals arrived equipped with materials such as fireworks, N-95 masks, gas masks, goggles, protective gear, and substantial food and water supplies. During the demonstration, chants of “shoot ICE, kill ICE” were reportedly heard according to DHS. Law enforcement apprehended one individual at the scene and confiscated a firearm.

DHS stated that this is not the first instance of unrest at the Broadview facility. Since the commencement of “Operation Midway Blitz,” the agency reports that law enforcement officers have been subjected to assaults, tear gas, vandalism of vehicles, and obstruction of the building’s entrance, along with trespassing on private land. The department highlighted a significant increase, over 1,000%, in assaults against ICE law enforcement officers. This incident follows a recent armed attack on an ICE facility in Dallas.
The DHS has called upon Illinois Governor Pritzker and Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson to publicly condemn the actions and rhetoric directed at ICE. The department contends that political figures, including Governor Pritzker and Mayor Johnson, have contributed to a climate of hostility towards ICE law enforcement. The press release cited past statements by Governor Pritzker, who reportedly suggested that the United States was becoming “essentially” Nazi Germany due to ICE’s operations, and Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson, who allegedly described ICE as “secret police” who “are terrorizing our communities.” DHS asserts that these protesters and supportive politicians are siding with criminal elements over victims.
“Operation Midway Blitz” has reportedly led to the apprehension of hundreds of individuals identified as criminal illegal aliens. Among those arrested are members of the Tren de Aragua gang, as well as individuals with prior criminal records for offenses including murder, sexual assault of a child, sexual assault, felony assault, domestic violence, stalking, drug trafficking, and armed and vehicular robbery.
