Investigators apprehended Zajac during an attempted exchange of controlled substances for firearms, which was orchestrated via social media. At the time of his arrest, authorities seized both cocaine and a 9mm pistol. The prosecution highlighted that Zajac is legally prohibited from possessing firearms due to previous convictions for armed robbery and other firearms offenses. Following his prison sentence, Zajac will be subject to three years of supervised release. Assistant U.S. Attorney Kyle Kane handled the prosecution of this case, with the investigation being conducted by the Bureau for Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. U.S. District Judge Gina M. Groh presided over the proceedings.
This sentencing underscores the ongoing efforts to combat the convergence of drug trafficking and illegal firearms acquisition. Individuals convicted of such crimes face substantial federal penalties, including lengthy prison sentences and periods of supervised release. The public should be aware that engaging in illegal drug transactions, especially when coupled with attempts to obtain firearms, carries severe legal consequences. Law enforcement agencies remain vigilant in monitoring online platforms for such illicit activities.
