The Maryland MADE program, funded by a $1.3 million grant from the U.S. Department of Energy, is part of a broader federal initiative to accelerate the integration of smart manufacturing practices in small and mid-sized businesses. This investment is designed to help Maryland manufacturers remain competitive by modernizing their operations. Examples of funded projects include an electronics manufacturer in St. Mary’s County utilizing 3D printing, a Kent County company focused on reducing machine power consumption, and a Cecil County food ingredient producer incorporating smart equipment controls.
Smart manufacturing technologies can lead to significant cost savings for manufacturers, as energy utilities often represent a substantial portion of their operating expenses. By investing in these advancements, businesses can improve their profitability while also contributing to a more environmentally friendly industrial landscape across Maryland.
Applications for the second round of the Maryland MADE grant program are scheduled to open on Monday, November 3. An informational webinar for interested parties will be held on Monday, October 6. Further details regarding program eligibility and webinar registration are available on the Maryland Department of Commerce website.
