NASA is offering the public an opportunity to participate in a historic lunar journey by sending their names on the upcoming Artemis II mission, scheduled for launch no later than April 2026. This crewed test flight, which will carry four astronauts on a voyage around the Moon and back, is a crucial step in NASA’s broader ambition to return humans to the lunar surface and eventually pave the way for missions to Mars. Individuals interested in having their name travel to the Moon can sign up online before January 21.

The “Send Your Name with Artemis II” initiative allows anyone to submit their name for inclusion on a micro SD card. This card will be aboard the Orion spacecraft, which will be propelled by the powerful Space Launch System rocket. The Artemis II crew will consist of NASA astronauts Reid Wiseman, Victor Glover, and Christina Koch, alongside Canadian Space Agency astronaut Jeremy Hansen. This mission represents the first time a crew will travel beyond low-Earth orbit under the Artemis program.

Upon completion of the mission, the data containing the names will be returned to Earth. As a memento of their participation, individuals who submit their names will be able to download a personalized digital boarding pass. This pass will serve as a collectible item, symbolizing their connection to the Artemis II flight. The agency is providing separate links for English and Spanish language boarding passes.

The Artemis II mission is designed to test the agency’s systems and hardware necessary for deep space exploration. This approximately 10-day flight is part of a “Golden Age of innovation and exploration” and is intended to inspire people globally. The successful completion of this test flight will be instrumental in preparing NASA to send American astronauts to the surface of the Moon and, ultimately, to Mars. Further details about the Artemis II mission can be found on NASA’s official website.
