Niz-Marroquin is alleged to have crossed the southern border illegally on March 14, 2022, and was reportedly released into the United States. ICE’s action to place an arrest detainer signifies the agency’s focus on apprehending and removing individuals who have committed crimes or pose a threat to public safety. According to information from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, a significant portion of ICE arrests involve individuals charged or convicted of crimes within the United States, with a substantial number of those arrested also including foreign fugitives, gang members, and individuals with past ties to terrorist organizations who may not have an extensive criminal record within the U.S.
The agency emphasizes its commitment to protecting American communities from individuals who endanger vulnerable populations. For individuals who have been victims of crimes allegedly committed by non-citizens, the Victims of Immigration Crime Engagement (VOICE) Office offers support and can be reached at 1-855-488-6423.
