The Maryland State Fire Marshal’s office is investigating the incident, which began around 4:19 a.m. Preliminary reports indicate that the occupant had activated her oxygen concentrator in the living room when she heard a “pop” followed by a flash of fire. She was able to evacuate the two-story home through the front door. A neighbor, witnessing the flames, alerted emergency services by calling 911. The home was not equipped with a fire alarm or sprinkler system, and the status of smoke alarms at the time of the incident is currently unknown. The fire required approximately 65 firefighters from the Susquehanna Hose Company and other departments to bring under control, with the fire taking one hour to contain. The investigation into the preliminary cause of the fire is ongoing. The displaced occupant will require assistance due to the complete loss of her residence.
