Dr. Michael and Dr. Goldson were originally appointed in 2023 by Governor Wes Moore. Over the past year, under their leadership, the Board introduced key updates to state academic standards, including comprehensive literacy and mathematics policies, and revised the College and Career Readiness benchmark. These efforts are aligned with the state’s broader education reform initiative, the Blueprint for Maryland’s Future, which aims to improve long-term educational outcomes.
Dr. Michael, a Baltimore City resident and Executive Director of the Sherman Family Foundation, brings a mix of classroom, policy, and philanthropic experience. His background includes teaching in Baltimore City schools and serving in leadership roles at UMBC. He also holds advanced degrees in public policy and school leadership. Dr. Goldson, meanwhile, brings decades of leadership experience in public education, having served as CEO of Prince George’s County Public Schools and currently leading Junior Achievement of Greater Washington.
