According to a safety recall report filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), Hyundai Motor America is recalling 4,754 Genesis vehicles across the U.S. due to a software defect that may cause the instrument panel to appear blank during startup. The affected models, the 2023–2025 Genesis G90 and GV60, could experience display failures that mask critical information such as speed, fuel level, and warning indicators, increasing the likelihood of a crash.

The defect arises from an error in the startup sequence of the instrument cluster software, causing communication issues between internal components. This leads to temporary blackouts of the display upon ignition, which violates federal safety regulations under FMVSS No. 101 for vehicle controls and displays. Hyundai’s testing identified the flaw after a repurchased vehicle showed a read failure during a cold start. The issue has been traced back to software developed by LG Electronics, the original equipment manufacturer of the display units.
Hyundai began correcting the problem in production models in April 2024 for the G90 and April 2025 for the GV60 by implementing a revised version of the software. However, vehicles produced prior to those dates remain at risk and are now subject to recall under campaign number 25V474.

Owners of the affected vehicles will be notified by mail beginning September 15, 2025. They will be directed to bring their vehicles to Genesis dealerships for a no-cost software update. In addition to in-person service options, Hyundai is also planning to issue over-the-air (OTA) updates to eligible vehicles with connected services. Customers who paid out-of-pocket for similar repairs prior to the recall may be eligible for reimbursement. The recall does not advise owners to stop driving their vehicles or to park them outside, as no fire risk has been reported.
