Two 2017 Ford GT vehicles are being recalled due to an improperly completed safety repair that may cause a hydraulic fluid leak, increasing the risk of fire. According to Ford and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the affected cars were recorded as having completed a previous recall (18S29), but were later found to be missing the necessary software update to fix the underlying defect.

The issue stems from a malfunction in the Ford Diagnostic and Repair System (FDRS) tool, which failed to install the correct version of software in the Vehicle Dynamics Control Module. Without this update, the risk of a seal failure in the rear wing valve block remains, potentially allowing hydraulic fluid to leak near ignition sources. While the number of affected vehicles is limited to two, the defect poses a serious safety hazard if left unaddressed.
Owners are advised not to drive the cars and to park them outside until repairs are completed. Ford will begin notifying dealerships and vehicle owners starting August 7, 2025. The fix involves updating the module’s software and potentially replacing the rear wing check valve. The repairs will be provided free of charge, and any owners who previously paid for similar service may be eligible for reimbursement.

There are no reports of injuries or accidents linked to this issue. However, due to the risk of fire, affected owners should immediately contact a Ford or Lincoln dealership to verify if their vehicle is part of the recall. Owners can also call Ford’s toll-free hotline or check their vehicle identification number (VIN) on the NHTSA’s website once the recall becomes active.
