Owners of more than 850,000 Ford and Lincoln vehicles across the U.S. should prepare for a significant safety recall due to a fuel pump defect that could lead to engine stalls while driving. The recall impacts a broad range of models, including some of Ford’s most popular trucks and SUVs from the 2021 to 2023 model years, raising potential concerns about road safety during high-traffic summer travel months.

The issue stems from the failure of a low-pressure fuel pump located within the fuel delivery module, which can cause a sudden loss of fuel pressure and flow. In affected vehicles, this may result in an unexpected engine stall while in motion, significantly increasing the risk of a crash. According to Ford, the defect is linked to internal contamination of the jet pump and inadequate fuel pump clearances, especially under low fuel levels or warm weather conditions. Although no crashes or injuries have been reported to date, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) initiated an investigation following several consumer complaints.
The models included in the recall span both light and heavy-duty vehicles. Affected units include the Ford F-150 (455,261 units), Ford Explorer (76,089 units), Ford Bronco (109,881 units), Ford Mustang (24,790 units), and Ford Expedition (32,470 units), as well as various Super Duty trucks like the F-250, F-350, F-450, and F-550. Lincoln models such as the Navigator (14,358 units) and Aviator (24,073 units) are also impacted. Ford estimates approximately 10% of the recalled vehicles may actually have the defect.

Vehicle owners will begin receiving interim recall notices by mail between July 14 and July 18, 2025. However, Ford has not yet finalized a repair solution. Once available, affected drivers will be asked to bring their vehicles to a Ford or Lincoln dealership for free repairs. In the meantime, owners experiencing poor engine performance, misfiring, or loss of power—especially in hot climates or with low fuel—should seek diagnostic assistance immediately. VIN-specific recall information is accessible through Ford’s dealer network and toll-free hotline.
The recall could have implications for resale values, service availability, and vehicle reliability—especially in regions where summer heat and long drives are common. Drivers are advised to keep fuel levels above one-quarter of a tank and to stay informed of repair availability.
