Grinder Discs Sold Nationwide Recalled After Reports of Injuries

Thousands of DEWALT grinder flap discs sold across the country have been recalled following multiple injury reports, with consumers advised to stop using the affected products immediately. The recall involves roughly 17,680 units of the DEWALT Elite Series 4.5-inch 40G T27 High Density Flap Discs, which may pose serious laceration risks due to detachment of abrasive flaps during use.

The recalled products—models DWA8280HRT and DWA8280RT—were available in industrial supply outlets such as Grainger, Fastenal, and Airgas, and online on Amazon between September 2024 and May 2025. They were manufactured in Turkey and imported by DEWALT Industrial Tool Company of Towson, Maryland. Only units with date codes from 2024-36 to 2024-48 are affected. Consumers can identify the model number on the front of the flap disc and should verify the date code printed on the shipping box or stamped directly on the disc.

To obtain a refund, users are instructed to write “Recall” on the affected discs, photograph them, and upload the image to DEWALT’s recall website. Once consumers confirm disposal of the product, they will receive compensation.

There have been three reports of the flap discs breaking apart during grinder operation, resulting in minor injuries, including cuts and scrapes. While no severe injuries have been reported so far, continued use of the defective product could pose additional hazards. The Consumer Product Safety Commission urges individuals to avoid selling or using the recalled discs and follow the proper disposal and refund process.
