We need your help to stay paywall free

We know you value local news and entertainment that is free, open, and independent. Producing high-quality, paywall-free content isn't free. It takes time, effort, and resources to keep you informed and entertained. Unlike corporate media, we don’t have deep-pocketed investors or big advertisers funding our work—we rely on you, our readers and listeners, to keep Radio Free Hub City running. We're literally running on a shoe-string budget, but keep working hard to provide as much news and entertainment as we can.

If just 5% of local area residents became paid supporters at only $5 per month, we could meet our fundraising goals and continue expanding our news coverage depth while continuing to provide free access for everyone. So, if you'd like to help us in our continuing quest to improve our coverage, please consider becoming a paying supporter.

MacLean Engineering & Applied Technologies, LLC, based in Houston, secured the Simulation and Advanced Software Services II (SASS II) contract, which will run from October 1, 2025, through September 30, 2030. The agreement allows for both cost-plus-fixed-fee and firm-fixed-price task orders, and it is structured as an indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity (IDIQ) contract. The project scope includes high-level simulation services for spacecraft guidance systems, robotic manipulation, on-board computer software, and human biomechanical modeling.

These services are critical for developing and evaluating NASA’s space-based vehicles throughout all flight phases. The work also includes simulating spacecraft interactions with planetary surfaces, supporting visualizations for engineering analysis, and integrating ground-based systems for human-in-the-loop training. The project is expected to support not just NASA’s scientific and exploration goals, but also contribute to local employment and the regional tech ecosystem.

Two local companies—Tietronix Software Inc. and VEDO Systems, LLC—will serve as major subcontractors on the effort, both of which are headquartered in the Houston area. Their involvement underscores the continued importance of Texas in national aerospace research and development.
