Chrysler is recalling more than 250,000 minivans across the United States due to a defect in the side curtain airbags that could reduce passenger protection and increase the risk of occupants being ejected from the vehicle during certain crashes. The affected models include 2022 through 2025 Chrysler Pacifica and Voyager vehicles, manufactured between May 2022 and November 2024. According to a report submitted to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), approximately 14% of the recalled vehicles may contain defective airbags.

The recall stems from a potential failure in the curtain airbags’ ability to retain sufficient pressure during deployment. This defect could result in the airbag not meeting federal safety standards designed to prevent excessive head movement during side impacts. The issue was first identified during compliance testing conducted by Transport Canada, which notified Chrysler after repeated test failures indicated a consistent problem in the airbag system’s performance. Internal investigations by the manufacturer confirmed that the issue originated from a supplier defect affecting airbags manufactured by Autoliv ASP, Inc.

Chrysler will begin notifying dealers on June 24, 2025, and will start contacting affected vehicle owners through an interim mailing beginning June 30, 2025. The company plans to replace one or both curtain airbags, depending on the specific vehicle and recall category. Owners do not need to take any immediate action beyond checking their vehicle identification number (VIN) online beginning June 24 to determine if their minivan is included in the recall. No warning signs precede the airbag failure, making the recall especially critical for safety-conscious drivers.
