The helmets in question, manufactured by Bell Sports Inc. of Irvine, California, do not comply with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission’s mandatory impact protection standards. Although no injuries have been reported, the agency warned that the products may not adequately protect wearers during accidents. Affected models include Axle, Cadence, Rev, Frenzy, and Passage, with manufacture dates spanning from August to October 2024. Consumers can identify the helmets by checking a sticker inside the helmet for the model number and manufacture date.
The recall covers about 31,200 helmets sold in the United States and an additional 480 in Canada. These were sold at major retailers such as Walmart, Target, and Academy Sports + Outdoors, as well as online through Amazon, FredMeyer.com, and others between September 2024 and May 2025. Prices were typically around $20.

Bell Sports is offering full refunds to consumers who destroy the recalled helmets by cutting off the straps and submitting photo evidence to the company’s designated email. The company has also announced it will contact known purchasers directly. The recall includes a range of colors and designs, appealing to both children and adults, and the failure to meet safety standards could pose a serious risk for frequent cyclists.
Affected consumers should take action immediately to ensure their safety and prevent potential injuries.
