Hundreds of thousands of Ford Explorer and Lincoln Aviator SUVs manufactured between 2020 and 2025 are being recalled due to a potential seat defect that could lead to increased risk of injury while on the road. The issue stems from a misaligned switch bezel on the easy entry seat fold mechanism, which can cause the button to become stuck in the down position. This could prevent passengers from securing or folding the seat properly, and in some cases, lead to the seat moving while the vehicle is in motion. Ford discovered the problem following reports from vehicle owners and began an internal investigation in late April 2025. Although approximately 100 complaints have been documented, there have been no confirmed injuries or accidents linked to the issue.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) opened a formal inquiry after receiving complaints, prompting Ford to initiate a field action. Approximately 183,427 Ford Explorers and 121,235 Lincoln Aviators are affected. Owners are urged to have their vehicles inspected at Ford or Lincoln dealerships, where dealers will verify installation, replace faulty components if necessary, and ensure the seat mechanism functions correctly—all at no cost to the consumer.

Notifications to dealers began on June 16, and letters to vehicle owners are scheduled to be mailed between June 23 and June 28. A second round of remedy notifications will follow in late August. Ford recommends that owners contact their local dealership or call 1-866-436-7332 to determine if their vehicle is subject to recall. Vehicle identification numbers (VINs) can also be checked through the Ford online system beginning June 16.
