Ford Motor Company has initiated a recall impacting several vehicle models after identifying software update errors in previously completed safety recalls. The recall affects thousands of vehicles across multiple model years, including the Lincoln Navigator, Ford Expedition, Ford F-150, Ford Maverick, Lincoln Corsair, and Ford Escape. According to Ford, these vehicles were previously flagged for safety recalls, but the intended software remedies were not correctly installed, leaving the underlying issues unresolved.

The affected vehicles are equipped with safety and compliance features that may not operate as intended due to the incorrect software installations. For instance, certain 2020 Lincoln Navigator and Ford Expedition vehicles may have non-functional Pre-Collision Assist systems, including Forward Collision Warning and Automatic Emergency Braking. In 2022 Ford F-150 trucks, the tire pressure monitoring system light may fail to illuminate when tire pressure is low, raising concerns over vehicle handling and potential crashes. Meanwhile, the 2020-2023 Ford Escape, 2022-2023 Ford Maverick, and 2021-2023 Lincoln Corsair could experience under-hood fires due to engine oil or fuel vapor accumulation, resulting from improperly updated powertrain control module software.
Owners of affected vehicles will receive notifications instructing them to visit Ford or Lincoln dealerships to have the correct software installed at no cost. Ford will validate the updated software part numbers before closing the service action to ensure compliance. The company has also reiterated that owners who previously paid for repairs related to these recalls may be eligible for reimbursement under Ford’s general reimbursement plan filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

No accidents or injuries have been reported in connection with these issues, according to Ford. Notifications to dealerships are expected to begin on June 23, 2025, with mailings to vehicle owners scheduled through June 30, 2025. Vehicle owners can verify if their cars are affected by contacting Ford’s toll-free line or visiting local dealerships, which have access to the company’s Online Automotive Service Information System.
