DR Power Equipment has issued a recall of about 7,180 lithium-ion battery-powered chainsaws in the United States, with an additional 21 units sold in Canada. While there have been 20 documented incidents involving fire, sparks, or smoke, no injuries have been reported.

The affected models include 414170, 414181, 41418, and 414170R, distinguishable by a black handle, orange buttons, and a label reading “DR Pulse 62V.” Consumers can find the model and serial number on a white label located on the right side of the handle. These chainsaws were sold nationwide at independent power equipment stores and online between June 2018 and July 2024, with prices ranging from $200 to $350.
DR Power advises consumers to immediately stop using the recalled chainsaws and contact the company for a refund. Refunds will be issued on a pro-rated basis depending on the chainsaw’s age. Consumers are required to submit proof of destruction by uploading photographs in accordance with online instructions. Specific directions for safe chainsaw destruction are available at DR Power’s website.

The recall also highlights the safe disposal of lithium-ion batteries, cautioning against throwing them in the trash or general recycling bins due to fire risks. DR Power recommends contacting local municipal hazardous waste centers to ensure proper disposal. DR Power can be contacted toll-free or via email, with additional information accessible on its website under the “Product Recalls” section. The chainsaws were manufactured in China and imported by Generac Power Systems Inc., based in Waukesha, Wisconsin.
